Jordan Henderson hoping to comeback stronger with Liverpool next season
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has acknowledged that the Reds players are disappointed on missing out on the Premier League title but they will be aiming to come back stronger next term. The Reds went head-to-head with Manchester City for the English crown through most of the campaign but they were eventually edged to the title by the solitary point.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Henderson admitted that there is the disappointing of not securing the league crown, but they are plenty of positives which can be taken from the campaign, the England international said: “It’s obviously disappointing. We always believed that, until the last day, if we kept doing what we were doing then we’d maybe [win it] so it’s disappointing, obviously.
“But I think after a few days, when we’ve got time to reflect, I think we’ll be proud of how we’ve performed this season and how we’ve pushed City right until the very end. They’re an amazing team so they deserve it, congratulations to them. We’ve pushed them all the way and hopefully next year we’ll come back even stronger.”
Liverpool may have failed to secure the title with their record points tally in the Premier League and they have nonetheless won plenty of supporters with their style of play under Jurgen Klopp. Moreover, the season could yet end up a success with a Champions League final scheduled against Tottenham Hotspur next month where they are favourites to secure a sixth European crown.
The Reds failed to deliver during the competition’s final last season where they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid but they have surely learnt from those problems as they possess the best defence across Europe’s top-five leagues. The Merseyside outfit conceded just 22 times during the course of the Premier League season.
